Mayor Daley visits Growing Home

The great people at Growing Home had some special visitors in Mayor Richard Daley and Chief Environmental Officer Sadhu Johnston. A large number of the city’s media were there to cover the event. It’s great to see Growing Home being recognized for the work they do. The Mayor was beleaguered somewhat by some politics du jour but otherwise was very interested in the work being done by Growing Home and other transitional and green jobs businesses in Chicago.

Jason Smith - Fun stuff Andy. Can you talk a little about how you did the panorama shot?

Dane Deasy - Awesome pictures Andy. It must have been fun shooting Major Daley. It’s so cool seeing him in the same place I’ve been at. Great stuff.

Andrew Collings - Hi Jason. For the panorama I shot 3 images in a hand-held panorama style at around 35mm. The image of Daley was not from the actual panorama sequence but his expression was bad in the one from the sequence. I just used photoshop cs4′s photo merge function. There was one problem with one person that I had to paint in by hand. Otherwise, it was pretty easy!

Andrew Collings - Thanks Dane! Yes, it was fun photographing the event. Seems like ages since we were doing the Literacy Works portraits, but it was only a year ago!

grace - Really great shots Andy! You are keeping busy I see!

Andrew Collings - Hi Grace. Thanks! It was a cool event. Looking forward to seeing you and Rene and baby Téa in August!

Chicago Garden - Heh,

He was “beleaguered” by questions about Burr Oak Cemetery when he was at the dedication ceremony of the organic rooftop farm at Uncommon Ground a couple of weeks back.

Nice shots.

Andrew Collings - Thanks! Yes, it was interesting to see his tap-dance with the reporters.
